While it retains the look of its predecessors for the playable characters, returning enemies and items, the game experiments with novel art styles for the diverse dimensions featured and their inhabitants, which are in general built from more geometric, abstract shapes and psychedelic colors, patterns and gradients. Super Paper Mario has a distinct visual identity within Paper Mario and the Super Mario franchise as a whole.

As the players defeat enemies, they accumulate points and level up, making their own attacks stronger. In addition to the four playable characters are fairy-like Pixls that grant the main party members various extra abilities, such as hammering objects or calling up a temporary shield. The story focuses on Mario, Princess Peach, Bowser, and Luigi journeying across various dimensions to stop a villain named Count Bleck from destroying all of existence. The game fuses elements of 2D and 3D gameplay together, shifting back and forth between dimensions, once being described as a "2.5D" sidescroller by Nintendo Power magazine. Unlike the other Paper Mario games, Super Paper Mario is a platformer and does not use a turn-based battle system, but rather incorporates RPG elements with platforming. Super Paper Mario is a platformer role-playing game released in 2007 for the Wii, as well as the first Super Mario game for the console. I'll update this as with my progress figuring it out as a wiki style post if I can resolve through the logs what's actually causing this type of drift.“Interdimensional adventure!” - Save data description If I don't figure this out I might consider changing back over. Note: I'm not using the de-settings-sync extension at this time, having migrated over in the last year to the built in sync solution. Is there anything I should check that prevents extensions from being synced with the built in Visual Studio Code Settings sync. My understanding is that key bindings were unique per platform, but extensions should be. This didn't fix it though as it is still drifting. My interim solution was to disable all extensions and then parsed the backed-up json with PowerShell to convert into code install-extension commands. I'd like to force sync the extensions to get this aligned, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this in the settings sync UI.
